What paints should I use for painting unlaminated wooden shelf? - paints to withstand hot liquor

I use acrylic paint on wood. I know it is a special type of acrylic (?) Paint used only for timber. My Shelf made of plywood, it is not. I want to paint just one area a little seasoning.

I just want to add color and a protective paint on him as a good paint color. What are your recommendations for the brand and color paint? Thanks for any help they can offer. :-)
